Our History

The Tanzania–US State Alumni Association (TUSSAA) is a member based and Non- Governmental Organization, which is duly registered under the Non-Governmental Organization Act, 2002, with a Certificate of Registration No. 00003353, issued on August 6, 2009

This organization is formed by Tanzanian nationals of different professions who have in different years attended various U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs in the United States of America, or elsewhere in the continent.

The main objective of this organization is to support and contribute towards Tanzanian’s social and economic development. The membership to the organizations is automatically obtained by any person who has attended or participated in any of the United States funded exchange programmes.

The organization brings together alumni from more than 20 United States exchange programmes including, Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) - Mandela Washington Fellowship, YALI RLC, Leadership Visiting Programme, Fulbright and many more. Currently there are more than 6,000 Tanzania individuals who have participated in the United States exchange programs, scattered in different regions of Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar.
